The Nursing Experience of Korean Nurse Officers in Vietnam War

Abstract
Until now there have been few studies which dealt in depth with the nursing experience of Korean nurse officers in Vietnam War, therefore this phenomenological study was carried out to help understand the experience of Korean nurse officers in Vietnam War. The subjects of the study were 6 Korean nurse officers who were participated in Vietnam War. The data were collected from July 2004 through August 2004 by listening of subjects¡¯ expression their experiences during Vietnam War. Contents of interviews were recorded with voice-recorder and transcribed to maintain data integrity. Analysis of the data was made through the Colaizzi method. Six main themes were induced from the study. 1) They were fully equipped with firm resolutions and inspired a deeper love for their country in accordance with overseas despatch. 2) They met with unexpected situations. 3) They were encountered with new things and materials. 4) They fulfilled their duties and endured every hardships with strong spirits.5) They felt love of brother in arms for the Korean soldiers on active duty in Vietnam. 6) Korean nurse officers were proud of carrying out their historical missio
